Varsity Tutors will not tell you what GMAT tutoring costs until you speak to someone, and that one fact decides whether this is worth your time. Its GMAT tutors page carries no hourly rate, no package list and no price of any kind, so every number you eventually see is a quote made for you.

We read that page, the separate GMAT test prep page and the guarantee terms on 29 September 2026, and we counted every tutor card on the GMAT page rather than reading the headline. The count is the other thing worth knowing before you book the call.

Varsity Tutors GMAT tutoring overview

Varsity Tutors is a general tutoring marketplace that covers the GMAT among thousands of other subjects. You fill in a short form or call the number on the page, a consultant works out how many hours to sell you, and you are matched with a tutor who teaches you over Varsity's own live platform.

The hours are the product. Around them sit weekly live classes, practice tests and diagnostics, which the page groups together as what the platform gives you beyond the 1-on-1 sessions. There is no GMAT course with a syllabus here, and no set of books that comes in the box.

What a purchase gets you:

  • Private 1-on-1 GMAT tutoring on the Varsity Tutors live platform
  • A tutor match made by a consultant after you describe what you need
  • A free rematch session if the first tutor is not right
  • Weekly live classes for test prep and enrichment
  • Practice tests and diagnostics on the platform

One thing is genuinely free and worth taking whether or not you buy hours. Varsity runs a separate GMAT practice hub with practice tests, flashcards and an AI tutor, open without a purchase. We assess the flashcard set on its own in our Varsity Tutors GMAT flashcards review.

Varsity Tutors GMAT tutoring review for 2026

The GMAT page shows 40 tutor cards. Every single one is labelled "Certified GMAT Tutor", and each card carries a photo, degrees, years of tutoring and, sometimes, a test score.

We counted what those cards actually show. Six publish a GMAT Composite: 770, 760, 760, 730, 720 and 710. Those six are the first six cards on the page, the ones you see without scrolling. Below them, 24 tutors publish only an SAT, ACT, GRE or MCAT score, and 10 publish no test score at all.

Bar chart of the 40 tutor cards on the Varsity Tutors GMAT page: 24 publish only an SAT, ACT, GRE or MCAT score, 10 publish no test score at all, and 6 publish a GMAT score of 710 to 770 What each of the 40 tutor cards on the Varsity Tutors GMAT page publishes. Source: the page itself, read September 2026.

A 1530 SAT is not evidence that somebody can teach Data Sufficiency. On the page you use to judge this service, 34 of the 40 tutors offer no GMAT score to judge them by.

That is not proof the other 34 are bad GMAT tutors. Plenty of strong tutors never publish a score, and the consultant may well steer you to one of the six. It does mean the roster you are shown is a weak signal, and that the only reliable move is to ask the consultant directly for the GMAT score of the specific tutor you are being matched with, in writing, before you pay.

The hours are good, the curriculum is whatever your tutor brings

Varsity's own terms are blunt about what you are buying. Tutors on the platform "are independent contractors, who use their own styles, methods, and materials and create their own lesson plans", as its guarantee page puts it.

Read that as a feature and it is one: a good tutor builds your plan around your weak areas instead of walking you through a fixed syllabus. Read it as a risk and it is that too, because nothing behind the tutor guarantees the material is current or GMAT-specific. Compare that with Target Test Prep GMAT tutoring, where the hours sit on top of the same course every student gets, or Manhattan Prep, whose packages bundle the Live Online course with the tutoring.

The rematch policy takes some of the sting out. If you are not satisfied after the first session, Varsity will connect you with a different tutor and the next session is free, up to two hours based on the length of the first one. That is a real protection and better than nothing, though it costs you a session and a week to use it.

The page still sells sections the GMAT no longer has

The GMAT page's own subject links offer "GMAT Integrated Reasoning Tutors" and "GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment Tutors". On the GMAT test prep page, the 8-Week Prep Class says it covers "verbal, quantitative, integrative reasoning and analytical writing".

Neither section is on the exam. GMAC's own structure page says the GMAT is 2 hours 15 minutes with one optional 10-minute break and 64 questions: Quantitative Reasoning 21 questions in 45 minutes, Verbal Reasoning 23 in 45, Data Insights 20 in 45. There is no Analytical Writing Assessment and no standalone Integrated Reasoning section.

Varsity's own GMAT FAQ compounds it by calling the test "the 3.5-hour exam", which is 75 minutes longer than the exam GMAC describes. None of this means the tutor you get is teaching the retired format, and the same FAQ elsewhere describes Data Insights correctly. It does mean the marketing around the product has not been checked against the test in a while, which is a fair thing to weigh when the tutors set their own materials.

Pricing

There is no price to report, and that is the finding. Neither the GMAT tutors page nor the GMAT test prep page shows an hourly rate, a package, a minimum or a range. The purchase path is a "Get Started in 60 Seconds" form or the phone number in the header, and the price arrives from a consultant afterwards.

You will see figures for Varsity Tutors GMAT packages quoted in roundups elsewhere. We are not repeating them, because none of them appear on Varsity's own pages and a price nobody will publish is not a price you can hold anyone to.

Here is what the rest of the category publishes, so you can judge a quote when you get one. Princeton Review lists $220 an hour for 10 hours down to $180 an hour for 30. Manhattan Prep lists 10, 20 and 30-hour packages that work out at $349.90 to $283.30 an hour, each bundling its Live Online course. Target Test Prep lists tutoring at $350 an hour with course access attached. Wyzant is a marketplace where each tutor sets and publishes a rate, running from $30 to $175 an hour on its own price widget.

Every other GMAT tutoring service we assess lets you compare before you talk to a salesperson. With Varsity Tutors you compare afterwards, which is the wrong order if budget is what decides.

Two practical notes. Ask for the rate per hour rather than the package total, since that is the only number you can put next to the figures above. And ask whether the hours expire, because no expiry policy is published either.

Who Varsity Tutors GMAT tutoring is best for

It suits the student who wants flexible hours rather than a program. Varsity publishes no minimum, so a small block of help on Data Insights or on timing is worth asking about, and the live classes and practice tests that come with the platform are worth something on top.

It suits people who already use Varsity Tutors for something else and trust the platform, and people whose employer or school benefit pays for tutoring hours, where the lack of a published rate matters far less.

It is a poor fit if you are price shopping, because you cannot. It is also a poor fit if you want a structured GMAT curriculum, since the curriculum is whatever your tutor brings. If your target is a specific score by a specific date, start with our GMAT study plan generator and our guide to what counts as a good GMAT score, then decide how many tutoring hours you actually need.

When you might look elsewhere

  • You want a published rate today. Princeton Review's GMAT tutoring prices every package on its own page, and its Comprehensive package carries a money-back guarantee, which no Varsity Tutors GMAT purchase does.
  • You want the tutoring attached to a real course. Manhattan Prep bundles its Live Online course into all three tutoring packages, and Target Test Prep attaches self-study or OnDemand access to every block of hours.
  • You want to pick the person, not be matched. Wyzant shows each tutor's rate, subjects and reviews before you contact anyone, and there is no package to buy.
  • You want to see the whole category first. Everything we have assessed sits on our GMAT tutoring page, and how we test each service is on our review methodology page.

One more thing worth knowing if you came here from the Veritas Prep name: veritasprep.com now redirects into varsitytutors.com, and both of the pages it redirects to return a 404 as of 29 September 2026. The GMAT brand many students remember is not a product you can buy any more.

Final verdict

Rated 3.2 out of 5. Varsity Tutors runs a solid live tutoring platform with a free rematch if the first tutor misses, and its free GMAT practice hub costs nothing to try. It loses points for the things a GMAT buyer needs most: no published price, no score guarantee, and a featured roster where only 6 of 40 tutors show a GMAT score.

If you call them, do two things. Ask for the hourly rate and the GMAT score of the tutor you are being matched with, and price both against the published rates above before you agree to anything. If either answer is vague, the rest of the GMAT hub has options that put their numbers on the page.

Varsity Tutors GMAT tutoring FAQs

How much does Varsity Tutors GMAT tutoring cost?

Varsity Tutors does not publish a GMAT price. There is no hourly rate, package list or minimum on either its GMAT tutors page or its GMAT test prep page, so the only way to get a number is the enquiry form or the phone number in the header. Ask for the rate per hour, since that is the figure you can compare with the $180 to $350 an hour the package providers publish, or the $30 to $175 an hour Wyzant's own tutors list.

Are Varsity Tutors GMAT tutors actually GMAT experts?

Some clearly are. Of the 40 tutors featured on the GMAT page in September 2026, six publish a GMAT score between 710 and 770, and those six lead the page. The other 34 publish an SAT, ACT, GRE or MCAT score, or no score at all, so the roster on its own does not tell you much. Ask the consultant for the GMAT score and GMAT teaching history of your specific match before you buy hours.

Does Varsity Tutors offer a GMAT score guarantee?

No. Its Pass Guarantee applies only to professional certification exam purchases on a list of eligible tests, and it pays out when you fail rather than when you miss a target score, so a GMAT purchase is not covered. What you do get is the Tutor Satisfaction Guarantee: if you are unhappy after the first session, Varsity rematches you and the next session is free, up to two hours.

Can I use Varsity Tutors GMAT materials without paying?

Yes. The GMAT practice hub with practice tests, flashcards and an AI tutor is open without a purchase, and it is a sensible thing to try before you book a consultation. It is drilling rather than teaching, so it will not replace tutoring, but it will tell you which question types you are losing points on before you pay anyone to find out.

Is Varsity Tutors the same company as Veritas Prep?

Veritas Prep's GMAT operation is no longer a separate product. Its domain now redirects into varsitytutors.com, and as of 29 September 2026 both pages those redirects land on return a 404. If you are shopping for what Veritas Prep used to sell, what is actually on offer is the Varsity Tutors tutoring reviewed here.

We may earn commissions from some links on this page, but this does not affect our reviews or your experience.

Our Verdict

A large, well-run tutoring platform that is unusually hard to evaluate for the GMAT specifically. You cannot see a price without a sales call, only six of the 40 tutors featured on the GMAT page publish a GMAT score, and there is no score guarantee on a GMAT purchase. The free rematch session and the free practice hub are real, and they are the reasons to keep it on the list if flexibility matters more to you than a published rate.
