The guarantee is why most people pay this much, and it is the part to read twice. Its conditions are a study plan in disguise, and one of them quietly rules out the most common reason students buy tutoring in the first place.

Manhattan Prep is now branded "Manhattan Prep powered by Kaplan" and sells through kaptest.com, so this is the only GMAT tutoring either brand offers. There is no separate Kaplan GMAT tutoring product to compare it against.

Buying is a two-step process. You purchase hours, fill in a tutoring survey covering availability and goals, and a tutor contacts you within 3 to 5 business days. Sessions are scheduled directly with that tutor and run in their Zoom room. The provider's own FAQ says sessions "generally last for 2 hours, and most students meet with their tutors once a week", which turns a 10-hour package into roughly five sessions across five weeks.

The tutors are the product, and you cannot pick one

Manhattan Prep says every GMAT tutoring instructor has scored in the 99th percentile, and the tutor profiles on the page back that up with numbers: one lists a 775 GMAT, another a 780. That is a harder screen than most of this market applies, and it is the single best argument for the price.

The awkward part is matching. Ask for a named tutor and the FAQ answers: "We will do our best to accommodate your preference, but we can't guarantee that the instructor will be able to meet during the times that you're available." Student reviews of this exact product on GMAT Club are almost entirely about named individuals rather than the program, which is what you would expect from one-on-one teaching and exactly why the matching matters.

The guarantee is real, and its conditions are a study plan

The headline is a 655 score or 70 extra points, or your money back. The full guarantee terms, rewritten for enrollments from 11 November 2025, spell out what "complete the recommended work" means. It means all of this:

• Submit a baseline practice test by your first session, taken under official conditions within the previous 6 months
• Complete the Basic Math Diagnostic before the first session, and if you score under 80 percent, work the Foundations of Math plan during the first third of your sessions
• Attend all 9 GMAT Live class sessions bundled with the package, plus their before-class and after-class homework
• Complete five full-length official practice exams under test conditions, as assigned
• Write a full post-test analysis of each one on Manhattan Prep's template
• Spread all of your tutoring hours over at least 60 days, first session to last
• Take the official GMAT within 60 days of your last session, and submit your results within 30 days of the exam

The sixth item is the one that reshapes the purchase. Students typically buy tutoring when a test date is close and a practice score is not moving. Under these terms a compressed block of hours, the exact thing a panicking student wants, voids the guarantee. Add the 60-day minimum to the 60-day window for sitting the exam and you need roughly four months of runway before test day for the guarantee to be claimable at all. Two more details worth knowing. The guarantee is limited to first-time Manhattan Prep students, so a returning customer is not covered. And if you do everything and still miss the number, you choose between a refund and a free re-enrollment; taking the re-enrollment ends your claim to the money.

Going from 10 hours to 20 costs $2,900 for ten more hours, which is $290.00 each. Going from 20 to 30 costs $2,100, which is $210.00 each. So the third block of ten is 40 percent cheaper than the first block, and a student who expects to want 20 hours is better off buying 20 up front than buying 10 twice.

The guarantee is cheaper without the tutoring

$1,000 separates the two products. If the bundles were otherwise identical, that would price ten one-on-one hours at $100 each, which would be extraordinary value. Manhattan Prep publishes no line-by-line comparison of what else differs, so treat $100 an hour as the floor rather than the real rate. The conclusion still holds either way: if the guarantee is what you want, the 655+ course carries it for $1,000 less, and the tutoring premium is buying tutor time, not protection.

• People who want the course and the tutor from one supplier. The nine class sessions, the books and the official practice are all in the price, and nothing needs buying separately
