The GMAT Official Guide 2026-2027 Bundle is the only set of study guides built from real GMAT exam questions, and the four-book print version costs $69.70. Buy that one rather than the $114.99 eBook bundle GMAC sells on its own store, because the print books stay on your shelf while the digital edition's online access expires 12 months after you activate it.

Almost every write-up about the Official Guide argues about whether you need it. That is the easy question, and the answer is yes. The harder question, and the one nobody on page one of Google answers, is which of the two versions GMAC sells you should actually buy, and what the set leaves out that you will end up paying for anyway. GMAT Official Guide 2026-2027 Bundle Overview

GMAC writes the GMAT, and the Official Guide is the only book series that draws its questions from the exam itself. Everything else on the market is a third party's best imitation, which is why this set is the spine of nearly every serious study plan and why we rank it first among GMAT prep books.

The 2026-2027 bundle is four guides, published by Wiley on 30 June 2026:

The print bundle ships as four paperbacks, and each book carries its own single-use code for that book's slice of the Online Question Bank. GMAC's own store sells the same four guides as eBooks with the same bank attached.

What is not in the box: any full-length practice exam, any video, any lesson that teaches you a method, and any score guarantee. This is a question bank with review chapters, not a course.

GMAT Official Guide Review For 2026

Real exam questions are the whole point, and they are worth the money

The case for this set is simple arithmetic. At $69.70 for over 1,800 official questions, you are paying under four cents per question, and they are the only questions in print that were written by the people who write your exam. Third-party questions can teach you a method, but they cannot teach you how the GMAT phrases a trap, and that phrasing is what separates a 645 from a 705.

The Data Insights Review matters more than its price suggests. Data Insights is the section most students have the least material for, and having 275+ official items in a dedicated volume is something no competitor can match. If you buy nothing else from this list, buy the main guide and the Data Insights Review.

The answer explanations are the honest weak spot, and students say so consistently. They explain why the correct answer is correct in the guide's own voice rather than teaching you a repeatable approach, and on harder Quant items they can be more convoluted than the question. Treat the explanations as a check on your reasoning, not as instruction. If you need to be taught the methods, the explanations in Target Test Prep or e-GMAT are built for that job and this book is not.

GMAC sells the same set twice, and its own store is the worse deal

This is the part that is missing everywhere else, and it is worth real money.

Go to GMAC's own prep store and the Official Guide bundle is $114.99, struck through from $130.96. That version is eBooks plus the Online Question Bank. Go to the publisher's print listing and the same four guides are $69.70 as physical books with the same bank attached. Buying from the test maker directly costs you $45.29 more, which is 65 percent.

The gap gets wider when you read the terms. GMAC's bundle page states that the Online Question Bank and the eBook access through Wiley's online Bookshelf both expire 12 months from the date of activation, and that there are no refunds for digital products. Downloaded eBooks in the Wiley Bookshelf app do not expire, so the digital edition is not worthless after a year, but the practice bank that justifies the price is.

The two listings do not even agree on what they contain. GMAC's store advertises 2,100+ real GMAT questions and 250+ online-only extras. The publisher's print copy for the identical four guides says over 1,800 practice questions and 300+ online-only extras. Add up the component counts GMAC publishes for the four guides individually and you get 1,725, which sits closer to the print figure than the digital one.

The one thing the digital edition does better is search. If you study on a laptop and want to jump to a question type instantly, that is a real convenience, and $45.29 is what GMAC is charging for it.

It tells you what the exam looks like, not how to beat it

Every experienced GMAT student eventually says the same thing about the Official Guide: it is a necessary resource and an insufficient one.

The review chapters summarise content rather than teach it. There is no pacing strategy, no error-log framework, no adaptive sequencing that decides what you practice next. You supply all of that, or you buy it from someone else. The other gap is full-length practice. The bundle includes none, and the GMAT is an adaptive exam where pacing under section timing is a trainable skill. GMAC's official practice exams use the same scoring algorithm as the real thing, which makes them the only mocks whose scores mean anything, and they are a separate purchase.

Finally, buy new. Each print book's Online Question Bank code is single-use and tied to that book, so a used copy is often four paperbacks and no bank. The $20 you save on a second-hand set is the same $20 that removes the feature you were paying for.

The print bundle is the only Official Guide set GMAC does not sell on its own store, and it is the cheapest way to own all four guides.

Two pieces of arithmetic are worth knowing before you click buy.

First, the struck-through $130.96 on GMAC's bundle page is not a discount from a higher retail price. It is exactly what the four digital guides cost bought separately: $49.99 plus three at $26.99. The bundle saves you $15.97, or 12.2 percent, and no more.

Second, the realistic all-in figure is not $69.70. Add the four official full-length exams and you are at $177.69, which is still less than the $299.99 Premium collection and is the combination we would actually buy. If your budget stops at one purchase, buy the print bundle and start with the free Official Starter Kit, which costs nothing beyond an mba.com account.

One timing note that costs nothing to get right: do not buy months ahead of when you will study. GMAC's two documents disagree on when the 12-month clock starts. The bundle page says activation, while the terms of use governing the bank say access commences on the date you first purchase and runs twelve months from there. Buy when you are ready to start, and redeem the codes that same week.

Who The GMAT Official Guide Is Best For

• Every GMAT candidate, at some point in their prep, because no other book contains real exam questions and there is no substitute for them
• Self-directed studiers who already have a method and need volume, official phrasing and a place to drill
• Students weak in Data Insights, since 275+ official items in a dedicated volume is the largest source of official practice for the newest section
• Anyone doing a second attempt who has exhausted third-party question banks and needs material that matches the real thing
• Budget-conscious buyers, because $69.70 buys the single most important resource in GMAT prep
