In the United States the GMAT costs $275 at a test center and $300 online, according to the GMAC exam payment page read on Nov. 7, 2026. That is the registration fee, and it is the only number most pages give you.
It is not what most candidates pay. GMAC also prices moving your date, cancelling it, missing it, and sending your score to a sixth school, and those fees attach to ordinary decisions rather than mistakes. This page adds them up.
- Registration is $275 at a test center and $300 online. The online exam is $25 more before anything else happens.
- Rescheduling costs 20, 40 or 60 percent of your registration fee, depending on how much notice you give. That is $55 to $165 at a test center and $60 to $180 online.
- Cancelling never returns most of your money. The best refund GMAC offers is 40 percent, and it only applies more than 60 days out.
- Rescheduling beats cancelling and rebooking at every tier, by $55 to $120.
- Five score reports are included, but only if you send them within 48 hours of your Official Score appearing. After that they are $35 each.
- Two fees you will read about elsewhere do not exist on the current exam: the Enhanced Score Report and score reinstatement.

What the GMAT costs in 2026
GMAC publishes one US fee table, and it only appears after you pick a country from a dropdown, which is why the figure in circulation is usually just the registration fee. Here is the whole table.
| Fee | Test center | Online |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | $275 | $300 |
| Additional score report | $35 each | $35 each |
| Reschedule, more than 60 days out | $55 | $60 |
| Reschedule, 15 to 60 days out | $110 | $120 |
| Reschedule, 14 days or less | $165 | $180 |
| Cancel, more than 60 days out | $110 back | $120 back |
| Cancel, 15 to 60 days out | $80 back | $90 back |
| Cancel, 14 days or less | $55 back | $60 back |
| Inside 24 hours, or a no show | nothing back | nothing back |
Prices are for the United States and vary by country, local tax and currency. Everything else we publish on this exam sits on the GMAT hub. If you are testing elsewhere, select your location on the GMAC page rather than converting these.

The $25 gap between the two delivery modes is the smallest difference between them. The two formats are otherwise closer than most candidates expect, and we compare them on experience and risk rather than price separately.
Moving your test date costs 20, 40 or 60 percent of what you paid
The reschedule fee is not a flat charge. It is a fixed share of your registration fee, which is why the online exam costs more to move.

Run the division and the structure is obvious. At a test center, $55 is 20 percent of $275, $110 is 40 percent, and $165 is 60 percent. Online, $60, $120 and $180 are the same three percentages of $300. The tiers are identical; only the base changes.
Two practical consequences. First, the cost of indecision triples between the 60-day mark and the final fortnight, so a date you are unsure about is cheapest to change early. Second, you cannot change anything at all inside 24 hours of your appointment, and at that point the entire fee is forfeited, per the GMAT policies page.
One avoidable charge sits on top. Rescheduling or cancelling by phone adds a $10 service fee, and phone changes are only available for the test center exam anyway. Do it in your mba.com account instead.
Cancelling never returns most of your money
GMAC lists refunds as amounts returned, which makes them look generous. Subtract them from what you paid and the picture changes.
| When you cancel | Test center, paid $275 | Online, paid $300 |
|---|---|---|
| More than 60 days out | $110 back, $165 lost | $120 back, $180 lost |
| 15 to 60 days out | $80 back, $195 lost | $90 back, $210 lost |
| 14 days or less | $55 back, $220 lost | $60 back, $240 lost |
| Inside 24 hours, or a no show | nothing back, $275 lost | nothing back, $300 lost |
Even the most generous tier keeps 60 percent of your fee. That matters because candidates often treat cancelling as the cautious option when a date stops working, and it is usually the expensive one.
Compare the two routes to the seat you eventually sit. At a test center, more than 60 days out, rescheduling costs $275 plus $55, so $330 in total. Cancelling returns $110 and then rebooking costs the full $275 again, so $440. Rescheduling saves $110 for the same outcome.
| Changing your date | Reschedule | Cancel, then rebook | You save |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test center, more than 60 days | $330 | $440 | $110 |
| Test center, 15 to 60 days | $385 | $470 | $85 |
| Test center, 14 days or less | $440 | $495 | $55 |
| Online, more than 60 days | $360 | $480 | $120 |
| Online, 15 to 60 days | $420 | $510 | $90 |
| Online, 14 days or less | $480 | $540 | $60 |
Missing the appointment outright is worse than either. GMAC treats a no show as a forfeited fee, and rebooking costs the full registration fee again after a 24-hour wait. That is $550 at a test center for one sitting. If you are not ready, the 16-day minimum gap between attempts and the cap of five attempts in a rolling 12-month period are worth planning around before you book, not after.
Score reports are free for 48 hours and $35 after that
Your registration includes up to five Official Score Reports. The condition is the part that costs people money: GMAC says you must send those free reports within 48 hours of your Official Score appearing in your mba.com account. After the window closes, every report is $35, including the five you did not use.
That window is short, and your score typically arrives three to five days after the exam, occasionally up to 20. So the practical move is to have your school list settled before test day, not after.
The arithmetic is simple and unforgiving. Applying to eight programs and sending nothing inside 48 hours costs 8 times $35, or $280, on top of registration. Doing exactly the same thing inside the window costs $105, because five are included and only three are extra. Score reporting fees are also non-refundable once paid.
Scores stay sendable for five years. Between five and 10 years you can still ask GMAC to send them, provided you have not taken a GMAT in the past five.
Whether you need that sixth report at all is a question about your target schools. Our guides to what counts as a good GMAT score and the current average GMAT score are the better place to settle a school list, and the GMAT score calculator will tell you what your section scores add up to before you decide where to send them.

Two fees you will read about that the current GMAT does not charge
Search this question and you will find a $30 Enhanced Score Report and a $50 score reinstatement fee quoted confidently, including inside Google's own AI summary. Neither applies to the exam you will sit.
The detailed performance breakdown that used to be a paid add-on now ships with every Official Score Report. GMAC states that the insights come at no additional cost, and they include performance by section, by content domain, by question type, by fundamental skill, plus your time management and a summary of the answers you reviewed and changed.
Score reinstatement no longer exists because score cancellation no longer exists. You are not asked to choose schools before the exam, so GMAC says plainly that there is never a need to cancel a score: programs see only the reports you choose to send, and anything you do not send stays in your account. There is nothing to reinstate and nothing to pay for.
Both figures are real history from the retired version of the exam, which is why they persist. If a page quotes you either one, check the date on it before you trust its other numbers.
What the GMAT actually costs, end to end
| What happens | Arithmetic | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Test center, nothing changes, 5 schools | 275 | $275 |
| Online, nothing changes, 5 schools | 300 | $300 |
| Test center, one move 15 to 60 days out, 3 extra reports | 275 + 110 + 105 | $490 |
| Test center, no show, rebooked | 275 + 275 | $550 |
| Test center, missed the 48-hour window, 8 schools | 275 + 280 | $555 |
| Online, moved inside 14 days, 5 extra reports | 300 + 180 + 175 | $655 |
Take the same path through both delivery modes and the online premium grows. One move at 15 to 60 days plus three extra reports costs $490 at a test center and $525 online, a $35 gap rather than the $25 on the sticker, because the reschedule tier is priced as a percentage.
None of this counts preparation, which is usually the largest line in a candidate's budget and the one you control most. What a course costs and whether it is worth it is covered in our GMAT prep course reviews, and there is a free route through a self-directed study plan if the budget is tight.
The ways to pay less that actually exist
Four of these are free. The fifth depends on someone else.
Test at a test center if either format suits you. It is $25 cheaper to register and cheaper at all three reschedule tiers, because every tier is a percentage of a smaller base.
Make changes in your account, never by phone. The $10 call-center surcharge buys you nothing, and phone changes are not even offered for the online exam.
Decide your school list before test day. Five reports inside 48 hours is the single largest saving available to most candidates: $175 against a $35-per-school bill afterwards.
Reschedule rather than cancel. Worth $55 to $120 whenever you are moving a date rather than abandoning the exam.
Ask about a waiver before you pay. GMAC's policies describe two instruments: vouchers issued by GMAC and fee waivers issued by schools. They are allocated by institutions rather than applied for directly, so the people to ask are the programs and any access or scholarship organization you already work with. Three limits are worth knowing in advance. A waiver cannot be used for rescheduling fees, it is not refundable, and it cannot be sold or transferred. A waiver for the online exam also cannot be used at a test center, or the other way round.
GMAT cost FAQs
How much does a GMAT exam cost?
In the United States, $275 for the exam delivered at a test center and $300 for the exam delivered online, as of Nov. 7, 2026. Pricing differs by country and may include local tax, so select your location on GMAC's exam payment page for your own total. The fee includes the exam, your Official Score Report with its full performance insights, and up to five score reports sent within 48 hours.
How much does it cost to reschedule the GMAT?
Between $55 and $165 at a test center, and $60 to $180 online, depending on how much notice you give. More than 60 days before your appointment costs the least, 15 to 60 days costs double that, and 14 days or less costs triple. Rescheduling by phone adds $10, and no change of any kind is possible inside 24 hours of your appointment time.
Can you get a GMAT fee waiver?
Sometimes, but not by applying to GMAC directly. GMAC's policies describe fee waivers as issued by schools and vouchers as issued by GMAC, which means they reach candidates through programs and partner organizations rather than through an individual application. Neither can be used for rescheduling fees, neither is refundable, and neither may be sold or transferred to another candidate.
How much does it cost to send GMAT scores?
Nothing for the first five programs, provided you send those reports within 48 hours of your Official Score appearing in your mba.com account. Every report after that window, or beyond the first five, is $35 each in both delivery modes. Score reporting fees are non-refundable, and your scores stay sendable for five years.
