The explanations do more work than the videos

Every practice question carries a detailed solution, and many of them carry a solution video. The illustrations are woven into those explanations, which matters for radiography, anatomy and pathology where a labeled image teaches faster than a paragraph.

The video library itself is the weak point. Booster describes NBDHE-specific lessons and animated walkthroughs, but this is not a lecture course, and the volume of instruction is not comparable to a program built around taught hours. If you have finished a hygiene program and need review and practice, that is fine. If you are relearning a subject from the ground up, it is not enough on its own.

The guarantee is better than it used to be, and narrower than it sounds

Booster's pass guarantee now works like this. You meet all three targets shown on your performance page before your test date. Two details are worth reading twice. The first is good news: Booster states that first-time takers, retakers and international applicants are all eligible, so the guarantee does not depend on being enrolled in an accredited US or Canadian program. The second is the catch: the three targets have to be met before you sit the exam, so a student who buys the 90-day plan, studies casually and fails has no claim. Booster states that 98 percent of students who meet all three targets pass, which is its own number and not independently audited.

Read the guarantee as an incentive to finish the platform, not as insurance. That framing is more useful anyway, given what a second attempt costs.

The 2026 Candidate Guide linked above sets the NBDHE examination fee at $600, non-refundable and non-transferable, with a further $435 processing fee for candidates from programs not accredited by CODA. Booster's 90-day plan is 47 percent of the exam fee, and every failed attempt means paying that $600 again under the board's five years or five attempts rule. Who NBDHE Booster is best for

Students who need practice volume in the real formats. If you have covered the material and want 1200+ questions with case-based sets and testlets, $279 buys a lot of exam-shaped practice in the formats the test actually uses.

Retakers. The guarantee covers you, the analytics will tell you where the first attempt went wrong, and the ability to build unlimited custom tests on a weak subject is exactly the tool a retake needs.

International candidates. Guarantee eligibility does not depend on being enrolled in a CODA-accredited program, which matters when you are already paying the $435 international processing fee on top of the exam.

People who study in short sessions. The mobile app, the daily questions and the games are built for 20 minutes at a time. If your prep happens between clinic blocks, that design works in your favor.

When you might look elsewhere

Start with the free official material either way. JCNDE publishes NBDHE sample questions written by the exam's own test constructors, a reference text list, a Pearson VUE tutorial and a practice test. None of that replaces a question bank, but the sample items are the only questions anywhere that come from the people who write the exam, and they cost nothing.

If you learn from lectures, buy instruction instead. Booster is review and practice. A student who needs periodontics taught from scratch should pair it with a course or a textbook rather than expect the video library to carry the load.

If you want something to keep. Access ends after 90 or 180 days and there is no printed component. A book stays on the shelf after your license arrives.
